Federation Support During PIP Process

South Yorkshire Police Federation Reps are always available to support officers who are going through Post-Incident Procedures (PIP), the Federation Chair has said.

Steve Kent was speaking following the Police Federation of England and Wales’ PIP Seminar last month. The seminar aimed to keep Federation PIP practitioners up to date with legislation and regulations so that they can best support their members.

Post-Incident Procedures (PIP) are carried out in all situations following police contact that have resulted in death or serious injury; revealed failings in command; or caused danger to officers or the public.

Steve said: “The PIP seminar was a good opportunity to get people in the same room and discuss this important issue.

“We have a number of trained PIP officers within our Federation, which really helps protect our officers and give them a little bit of reassurance when they’re in our building under what can be really difficult circumstances.

“I’m pleased to say, in fairness to the force and ourselves, they do tend to work really well. It usually runs very smoothly in terms of the relationship between the force and us, and in terms of making sure our officers are properly protected and given the correct advice.”
